SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The IUPUI men's soccer team fell behind at Missouri State and never really got off the mat as the Jaguars dropped a 3-0 road decision on Sunday afternoon. The Jaguars were outshot 13-9 in the defeat.

"Missouri State took us out to the woodshed and gave us a good beat down today," IUPUI Head Coach Steve Franklin said. "They didn't do it in terms of fouls because they only had nine fouls, but they took it to us. We knew they liked to sit back and counter attack and they got us in the fourth minute."

Just 3:45 into the match, Jordan Hoffman netted the game-winner, set up by a long ball from Gerard Barbero. Barbero drilled a ball over the top of an IUPUI defender to Hoffman, who headed the ball down before resuming his attack. Once settled, Hoffman beat junior goalkeeper Tyler Keever with a shot into the lower left-hand side of the net.

Missouri State (2-2) added some insurance in the 33rd minute when Heath Melugin tallied off an assist from Paul Paradise. Paradise played a free kick to Melugin, who beat his mark before putting a strike past Keever.

The final tally of the game came in the 57th minute when Barbero netted a long free kick past sophomore goalkeeper Alex Mannen for his first score of the year.

IUPUI was limited offensively as junior Yogi Snider led the attack with three shots, putting two on frame.

"They had the shot count at 13-9, but I'll be honest, I don't remember us putting one on frame," Franklin said. "That was the disappointing part about today is that we never really got involved in the attacking third.

"We thoroughly got outplayed, but credit Missouri State. We're not making any excuses though. They played Friday too, the same as we did."

Melugin attempted a game-high five shots as Mannen made four stops off the bench. Keever collected one first half save before giving way to Mannen at the break.

IUPUI (2-2) will now return home to host Valparaiso on Friday night at Kuntz Stadium, beginning at 5:00 p.m.. The match is the opener of Pack the House Night as part of BIG BOLD JAGUARS Weekend, presented by Indiana Members Credit Union. Adult admission is just $1 while fans under the age of 18 will be admitted for free. Like always, IUPUI students will be admitted for free with a valid JagTag.
