DETROIT - The IUPUI women's soccer team's early season slumber continued as the Jaguars dropped a 3-0 decision at Detroit on Sunday afternoon. UD's Sarah Dzuris netted the game-winner in the game's fifth minute and the IUPUI offense was blanked for the third straight outing to open the year.

"Right now, mentally, we're not a team that can respond when the other team throws the first blow," IUPUI Head Coach Chris Johnson said. "There were some really hard plays and physical play in the first half, and we didn't respond."

Dzuris got the game-winner past IUPUI (0-3) rookie Giselle Guzman when she hit a low drive off an assist from Abby McCollum. McCollum got tangled with Anna Pigg on the play, dropping the Jaguar defender to help setup the scoring chance. Detroit (2-1) took a 1-0 lead to the locker room before tallying twice early in the second half to end any suspense.

"At halftime, we talked a lot about taking the game to them and then we came out and didn't get a shot for the first 15 minutes," Johnson said. "I thought we played hard, but it just wasn't there."

Alexandra Suschak made it 2-0 in the 48th minute when her free kick snuck into the lower left corner of the net for her third score of the season. In the 56th minute, Nina Carter capped the scoring when she netted the rebound of Megan McLalin's initial attempt for her third goal of the year.

IUPUI's only shot attempts of the game came in the 25th and 59th minutes. Junior Megan Hock put a shot on frame in the first half, forcing UD goalie Nora Abolins to make the stop. Later, freshman Ashley Doreski put a shot on mark that Abolins went to the ground to keep out of the net.

The Titans outshot IUPUI 10-2 on Sunday and had a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks. Carter led all players with three attempts.

Guzman went without a save in her second collegiate start.

"I thought she played hard and she didn't give any goals away today," Johnson said. "She made some nice plays on some balls.

At the other end, it marks the first time since October 2007 that IUPUI has been blanked in three straight matches.

"It's just not good enough right now. We're going to make some changes this week," Johnson said. "I thought Megan Hock played really hard and Sarah Carlisle worked hard all day. At the end of the day though, we just weren't good enough."

IUPUI will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 4 when they play at the University of South Dakota in a 5:00 p.m. kickoff. The match will be the first of a two-game trip which will conclude at Nebraska on Monday.
