FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- After an early-morning 4-0 setback versus Oral Roberts, the IUPUI women's tennis team nearly evened the ledger in their afternoon match against Western Illinois.  However, in a contest that game down to a single match, the Jaguars fell, 4-3, to the Leathernecks at the Concordia Lutheran High School tennis courts on Thursday afternoon.

Taking part in the first of two Summit League clusters, IUPUI (2-16, 0-2 Summit) was blitzed by Oral Roberts in the morning.  The Jaguars dropped the doubles point before the Golden Eagles won singles matches at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 in straight sets to claim the victory.

Looking to rebound in the afternoon session, the Jaguars claimed the early point, winning doubles, 2-1.  Hunter Bullock and Shelby Hullett routed their competition, 8-2, at No. 1, while Janel Seng and Alisha Cummings claimed a taut 8-6 win at No. 3 to pick up the point.

In singles play, Bullock cruised to a straight set, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 to put the Jaguars up, and when Ashley Haskett came through with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 4, IUPUI was within a point of evening their record on the day.

However, Western Illinois took straight set wins at Nos. 2, 5 and 6 to even the match at three victories apiece, making the No. 3 singles match the decisive point.

Hullett rallied after dropping the first set, evening the match with a 6-2 win, but WIU's Yana Meinert took the third set, 6-3, to give the Leathernecks the win.

IUPUI will be back in action on Friday, when they meet Centenary in their third of five matches at The Summit League cluster.  The matches will begin at 9 a.m. ET from the Dr. Rudy & Rhonda Kachmann Tennis Complex on the campus of IPFW.
