INDIANAPOLIS - Continuing their run of strong play, the IUPUI women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win over Marian University Tuesday afternoon at the Indianapolis Tennis Center. Enjoying the above-average temperatures and utilizing the outdoor courts, the Jaguars won six of seven singles matches, including the exhibition match.
IUPUI (2-14) won the doubles point as
Hunter Bullock and
Shelby Hullett routed their competition at No. 1, 8-2, to get the matches rolling. Janel Seng and
Alisha Cummings improved to 7-9 at No. 3 doubles, easily winning, 8-3, to secure the point for the Jaguars.
The four doubles winners were also among IUPUI's six singles victors on Tuesday, all of which came in straight sets. Cummings and Seng each only dropped one game on the way to straight-set victories - Cummings rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2, while Seng dropped her game in the first set but handily won. 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5.
Bullock won her third straight match at No. 1, as did Hullett at No. 3. Bullock had no problems in a 6-2, 6-0 victory, while Hullett adjusted after winning her first set, 6-3, and won the second at love, 6-0.
Jesika Bays closed the scoring for IUPUI, also recording a straight set, 6-3, 6-1, win at No. 6; the victory was the fourth straight for the Zionsville-product.
Sondra Caputo added to the Jags' victory total, winning her exhibition match, 8-3.
The Jaguars will head to Fort Wayne, Ind., over the weekend for the first of two Summit League clusters. With matches being held at Concordia High School, IUPUI will meet Oral Roberts at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 1. IUPUI will face Western Illinois later on Thursday before matches with Centenary, IPFW and Oakland later in the weekend.
