EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The IUPUI women's tennis team picked up three singles wins on Saturday, but could not overcome losing the doubles point in a 4-3 loss to SIU-Edwardsville at the SIUE tennis courts.
IUPUI (1-14) nearly took their second straight win of the spring season, as
Hunter Bullock,
Shelby Hullett and
Jesika Bays all won singles matches.
Janel Seng and
Alisha Cummings won their match at No. 3 doubles, but SIU-Edwardsville won at No. 1 and No. 2 to claim what proved to be a crucial point.
Trailing 1-0 entering singles, Hullett evened the match by making quick work of Laura Horning, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3.
Bullock held on for a three-set win at No. 1, taking the first set, 6-1, before dropping the second, 4-6. In the third, Bullock picked up an early break and cruised to a 6-3 victory.
Bays encountered a similar fate playing at No. 6; the Zionsville, Ind.-native easily won her first set, 6-2, before being evened up in the second, 2-6. Bays jumped out to an early lead in the third and never looked back, winning, 6-1.
SIU-Edwardsville took wins at No. 2, 4, and 5 to claim the overall win.
The Jaguars will be back in action on Tuesday, March 30, when they host Marian University. The matches will begin at 3:00 p.m. from the Indianapolis Tennis Center.
