LAS VEGAS - With final exams in the books, the IUPUI basketball team will face a stiff on-court test this week when it takes part in the 2010 Jerry Tarkanian Holiday Hoops Classic inside the 4,000 seat South Point Arena this week. The Jaguars will play No. 7/7 San Diego State (12-0) for the second time this season on Wednesday before playing San Francisco (4-6) on Thursday.
Both games will tipoff at 10:00 p.m. EST with Scott McCauley (pxp) calling the action, starting at approximately 9:55 on 88.3 FM / The Walk in Indianapolis.
IUPUI (5-7) is anxious to return to action after a lackluster showing at Duquesne on Saturday night. The Jaguars yielded big runs to the host Dukes to start each half and fell 81-54 inside the Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh. The lone bright spot was the collegiate debut of 6-foot-5 freshman #P.J. Hubert#, who hit 5-of-6 from three and scored a team-high 15 points.
Duquesne broke a 2-2 tie with a 10-0 run on Saturday and never trailed in the win. Senior Bill Clark led five Dukes in double-figures with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Juniors
Alex Young (12 points) and
Stephen Thomas (10 points) also finished in double-figures for IUPUI.
IUPUI is 0-1 all-time against both SDSU and San Francisco. The Aztecs knocked off IUPUI 61-46 on Nov. 21 of this season in Oxford, Ohio as part of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic. At that point, Head Coach Steve Fisher's team was ranked No. 25 in the country, but has since ascended to a No. 7 ranking in both polls.
The Dons knocked off IUPUI 80-51 on Dec. 3, 1999 as part of the San Franciso Tourney.
