ROCHESTER, Mich. - The IUPUI men's soccer team's 2010 season came to a close on Friday afternoon as the Jaguars fell to No. 3 seed Oakland 3-0 in the second Summit League Tournament semifinal match in Rochester, Mich.. The host Golden Grizzlies scored all three goals in a 15-minute span in the second half, beginning with Sean Magee's game-winner in the 72nd minute.
Johnny Dreshaj, who set-up the game-winner, then potted an insurance goal on a penalty kick in the 75th and Alex de Leon capped the scoring in the 87th. With the win, tournament host Oakland will take on No. 4 Oral Roberts for The Summit League title at noon on Sunday.
“I thought we played the better game for the first 15 minutes and squandered two real good scoring opportunities," IUPUI Head Coach
Steve Franklin said. "Sometimes that comes back to bite you. It was a typical IUPUI-Oakland game. We scrap after each other, completely different than how the first semi went. I give credit to Oakland today. The better team, the team that was more aggressive and the team that finished their opportunities won.”
IUPUI's first two offensive chances of the game came when
Kyle Hyland had a shot sail wide right in the fifth minute and
Nate Ohmer had an attempt blocked in the tenth minute, resulting in the Jaguars' second corner of the match. However, Oakland closed the half with a 12-4 advantage in shots and finished the game with a 23-10 edge.
IUPUI (9-8-2) didn't get a shot on frame until the 64th minute when sophomore back
Emile Garcia tested Mitch Hildebrandt with a header that the OU keeper kept out of the net.
Oakland's (6-10-3) game-winner came when Dreshaj's initial attempt was knocked down, but Magee struck the rebound from 10 yards past IUPUI goalkeeper
Tyler Keever for his second score of the year. Dreshaj's PK was his third score of the season as he finished the match with a game-high eight attempts.
Second Team All-Summit League pick
Yogi Snider led the Jags with three tries from his midfield position and Keever finished the match with seven stops in net. IUPUI was blanked for the third straight time to end the year and finished the season having been shutout 10 times.

“First off, hats off to IUPUI. They had a great season. It was 3-0 on the scoreboard but it was not a 3-0 game," Oakland Head Coach Eric Pogue said. "The game went back and forth until the last 18 minutes when we scored twice in three minutes to break it open. I thought the game would come down to who wanted it more. Throw tactics out the door. It’s heart, intensity, physical play and who can stick the ball in the back of the net."

Franklin's squad will graduate just three seniors in starting backs
Derek Craig and
Weston Hawkins and midfielder
Nate Ohmer. Hawkins was named First Team All-Summit on Friday for his defensive contributions this past season and capped his career with 75 starts.
“My guys played hard the entire year. We come out with a winning record on the season, we beat some quality opponents along the way," Franklin said. "When you get in the post-season and it’s a one and done situation, the better team on that day will advance and today that was the case.”
