INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team's 2010 season came to a close on Sunday as the Jaguars dropped a 1-0 Summit League decision to Western Illinois at Kuntz Stadium. The Jaguars outshot the Leathernecks by a 14-5 margin, but yielded a goal in the game's 18th minute to account for the game's only offense.

A stiff 15-20 mph wind gave Western Illinois (10-5-4, 6-2-1 Summit) a definitive advantage in the first half and later was IUPUI's friend in the second half. The game's only goal came when Western Illinois had a two-on-one advantage working right in the middle of the field, just beyond IUPUI's 18-yard box. Jill Kevorkian drew the defender and shifted a diagonal pass to Kelly Diershow, who lined a shot into the left side of the net past freshman goalkeeper Kristin Haseley. The goal was Diershow's fourth of the season.

Otherwise, IUPUI (8-11, 4-5 Summit) at bay offensively. Diershow put a gorgeous header on frame in the game's seventh minute, but Haseley plucked the ball out of midair for the stop.

Offensively, only four of the Jaguars' four attempts went on frame.

Junior Megan Hock rolled a shot just wide of the left post off the opening kickoff and later hit a shot right at WIU goalkeeper Laura Atkinson in the 31st minute. Freshman Sarah Carlisle put a rolling header on frame in the 41st minute that Atkinson made an easy save on.

The second half was played primarily in the WIU end of the field, but the Leathernecks' defense never buckled. Senior Amanda Snyder missed a drive well high of the crossbar in the 77th minute and senior Stacy Levack was seemingly just one step away from tying the score after Alex Baer had headed a diving cross back into traffic with less than 10 minutes to play.

Hock led all players with four shot attempts and Alicia Brock and Sarah Wong tried two each. Diershow was responsible for three of WIU's five attempts, putting all three on target. Haseley made three saves in the loss while Atkinson recorded four saves in the shutout.

Following the match, IUPUI honored the careers of the six seniors - Cara Hartman, Natalie Holland, Levack, Anna Pigg, Snyder and Kelly Williams. Holland, Pigg and Williams finished their career with more than 70 games played, joining a group of just seven Jaguars to do so. Pigg also finished ranked among IUPUI's top five all-time in matches started.

This year's senior class also helped the Jaguars win 41 matches since 2007, marking the best four-year total in the program's history. Hock finished the year as the team's leading scorer with 15 points (7 goals/1 assist) while Sarah Colby and Brock closed with 11 each.
