SHREVEPORT, La. - Having already clinched a berth in the forthcoming Summit League Tournament, the IUPUI men's soccer team will conclude the 2009 regular season against Centenary at Mayo Field on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. CST. IUPUI comes in riding a three-game winning streak, having outscored the opposition 10-1 during that stretch.
IUPUI (4-10-3, 2-2-1 Summit) received an extra treat on Halloween, beginning with a 2-0 win over IPFW at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium last Saturday afternoon. Later that evening, Western Illinois polished off Oral Roberts 4-1 in Tulsa to seal the Jaguars' fourth consecutive Summit League Tournament berth.
The current three-game winning streak began against ORU on Oct. 24 when the Jags scored an improbable 2-1 come-from-behind overtime win. Junior midfielder
Nate Ohmer scored both goals including the game-winner in the 96th minute. Four days later, the offense took out some frustrations in an emphatic 6-0 win over Marian University. Sophomore
Perez Agaba had two goals and an assist and senior
Eric Weigman chipped in a goal and an assist in the victory. The six goals tied for the most in IUPUI's Division I era while the Jags also had a school record 17 corner kicks.
The three-game homestand concluded with the 2-0 win over IPFW, thanks to a stout defensive effort by sophomore goalkeeper
Tyler Keever and some timely second half offense. After a scoreless first half, freshman defender
Emile Garcia broke the shutout with a well placed header early in the second stanza and senior
Caleb Lindemann added insurance with a penalty kick.
For the season, Ohmer leads the offense with four goals while Agaba has totaled three goals and three assists.
Centenary (3-13-1, 1-4 Summit) is led offensively by John McHugh (four assists) and Todd Faulkinberry (three goals) and defensively by Rennie Walker, who has started 15 times in goal. The Gents have dropped six straight entering the weekend, but are 2-2-1 at Mayo Field this season for Head Coach David Orr.
IUPUI leads the all-time series between the two schools, 4-2-1 and has won the past three meetings.
