INDIANAPOLIS -- The IUPUI Department of Athletics and women’s tennis head coach Cameron Benjamin have announced that
Danielle Haefele (Venice, Fla./Venice) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play women’s tennis at IUPUI, beginning with the 2010-11 season.
“We are excited to bring Danielle back to her home state,” Benjamin said. “Over our last few signing classes, we have rebuilt our program, and I think that Danielle will continue to add to our strong lineup.”
Originally from Fort Wayne, Ind., Haefele played both No. 1 and No. 2 singles for Venice High School, winning team MVP honors following her sophomore and junior seasons.
“I have been interested in attending IUPUI for sometime now,” Haefele said. “I love the city atmosphere and I feel like it is the perfect place for me to fit in, better my education and play excellent tennis with a good team.”
Aside from playing with the Indians, Haefele competed in United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournaments on weekends.
The women’s tennis team will open their spring schedule when they head to the northside of Indianapolis to take on Butler on January 22. The matches will begin at 4:00 p.m. from the Butler Bubble.
