MACOMB, Ill. - The IUPUI men's soccer team will head west to take on Western Illinois in a Summit League matchup on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. CST (2:00 ET) kickoff. Both schools come in starving for a victory as they jockey among The Summit League standings.
The Jaguars haven't won since the season-opening 2-1 win over Detroit on Sept. 1 while the Fighting Leathernecks have dropped three straight since getting back-to-back wins over High Point and Central Arkansas in mid-September.
IUPUI (1-6-3, 0-0-1 Summit) has been blanked its past three outings, although the Jaguars have been facing elite competition. The string began with a 1-0 loss at No. 24 Ohio State on Sept. 23 and continued when Head Coach
Steve Franklin's team played Summit League preseason favorite UMKC to a scoreless tie on Sept. 26. SIU-Edwardsville then handed the Jaguars their first home loss of the season, 1-0 on Oct. 3. Five of the Jags' six losses have come by a single goal while the defense has yet to yield more than two goals in a game this season.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Tyler Keever has a 1.23 goals against average and 47 saves in his nine starts. In front of him, the freshman combination of
Emile Garcia and
Michael Wignot have been strong in the center back and junior
Derek Craig is having an outstanding season from his outside spot.
Western (2-7-0, 0-1-0 Summit) is led by Martin Browne, Jr., who's scored four of the Fighting Leathernecks' eight goals on the year. Defensively, the goalkeeping combination of Stephen Paterson and Andrew Ryan has a combined GAA of 1.96 and .735 save percentage.
