INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team kept its Summit League postseason hopes alive and notched its third straight win with a 2-0 triumph over visiting IPFW at Carroll Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Emile Garcia recorded the game-winner in the 54th minute and sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Keever made three saves in his second shutout of the year.

Senior Caleb Lindemann added some late insurance with a penalty kick in the game's 73rd minute.

On a day in which there were steady 20 to 30 mile an hour winds blowing into the east goal and the field was sloppy at best, the Jaguars were playing for a scoreless tie in the first half.

"Today's game was going to come down to a mistake or the wind," IUPUI Head Coach Steve Franklin said. "We wanted to try and be a little bit intelligent and weather the storm (in the first half). They chose to play direct with three front runners and in the second half, we had the wind."

IPFW's Max Touloute ripped a shot off the right post in the 13th minute for the Mastodons' best scoring chance of the first half. Despite outshooting IUPUI (4-10-3, 2-2-1 Summit) 6-3 in the first half, Franklin's squad accomplished its mission by going to halftime scoreless.

"We wanted to get into halftime with the score level," Franklin said. "We were thinking if we could keep them without putting something on the scoreboard, we'd be in good shape."

Garcia made the strategy work by scoring his second goal of the season just over eight minutes in to the second stanza. Freshman Kyle Hyland sent a long throw-in to the rookie defender who redirected a shot past IPFW (5-11-2, 1-4 Summit) goalkeeper Donovan Dowling.

IUPUI kept the heat on and finally got a break when sophomore Perez Agaba drew a penalty kick by drawing a foul inside the left edge of the 18-yard box. After a lengthy delay, Lindemann blazed the PK into the upper right side of the net.

"I was just making sure to not look where I was putting it in the goal," Lindemann said. "I kept my eyes on the ground, but I knew I was scoring - no question."

"I give Caleb a lot of credit," Franklin said. "He pounded on his chest and said I want the penalty and like a good senior, he stepped up and put it away."

IUPUI has now outscored the opposition 10-1 during its current three-game winning streak.

"It feels great. We've been working so hard as a team and had so many tough, close losses," Lindemann said. "To finally get some momentum at the end of the season when it really counts, it feels good.

"You can see it in everybody's eyes and we really believe we can make it in the NCAA Tournament."

After not getting a win in its first three outcomes of Summit League play, the Jaguars have responded with back-to-back home wins over Oral Roberts and IPFW.

"In this conference, you always want to be in a position where you control your own destiny," Franklin said. "If you win your games, you make the conference tournament. What really stinks is when you have to rely on other teams to decide your fate."

Four different Jaguars attempted two shots on Saturday while both Garcia and Lindemann put two on frame. Both Keever and Dowling made three stops in net. Raphael Martinez had two shots on goal for the 'Dons.

IUPUI will wrap up its regular season on Saturday, Nov. 7 when it heads south to take on Centenary in a Summit League showdown. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Mayo Field.
