MACOMB, Ill. - The IUPUI women's soccer team continued to build on one of the nation's longest current winning streaks by opening Summit League play with a 2-0 win at Western Illinois on Saturday. The win marked the Jaguars' ninth consecutive victory and the eighth straight game with two or more goals.

Sophomore Alicia Brock scored the game-winner just over eight minutes into the contest and classmate Megan Hock added insurance in the 21st minute.

Brock scored her fifth goal of the season when she dribbled in from the right side before firing a 20-yard shot past WIU goalkeeper Meghan Tyk. Midway through the first half, senior Katrina McCrory set up Hock's team-high sixth goal of the season, beginning by her dribbling past a defender from the left side. After beating her defender, she rolled a pass to Hock who finished her 13th career goal for an early 2-0 lead.

That proved to be more than enough for senior goalkeeper Jamie Farrell who made three saves in recording her fourth shutout of the 2009 campaign.

Offensively, IUPUI (9-2-0, 1-0-0 Summit) dominated from the outset, attempting a season-high 29 shots and holding the Fighting Leathernecks to just 11 attempts. Brock led all players with five tries and eight different field players registered at least two attempts.

WIU's (3-5-1, 0-1-0 Summit) best scoring chance came in the 55th minute when Caitlin Barrett had a shot attempt ring off the post and back into the field of play.

Saturday's win marked the first time since 2006 that IUPUI has won its league opener and the first time since 2001 the Jaguars have won in Macomb.

IUPUI returns to action next Thursday when they travel to Kansas City for game one of a two-game Summit League swing. The Jaguars will take on UMKC at 7:00 p.m. before having to travel to Cedar City, Utah to play Southern Utah on Saturday.
