MACOMB, Ill. - In what has become an all too familiar occurrence for Head Coach Steve Franklin's men's soccer team this season, the Jaguars yielded a goal in the 68th minute and was unable to muster any offense in a 1-0 loss to Western Illinois at MacKenzie Alumni Field on Saturday. Jonathan Sandoval tallied the game-winner with 22:02 left when he collected a rebound and rolled a shot past IUPUI goalkeeper Tyler Keever.

It was the fourth straight game that IUPUI (1-7-3, 0-1-1 Summit) had been shutout and the sixth time this year the Jaguars lost a one-goal decision.

"It was another repeat performance," Franklin said. "It's just a matter of not being able to finish our chances. It's not that we got outplayed. We're just not getting the breaks that others are and we're not being rewarded for our work."

WIU (3-7-0, 1-1-0 Summit) got the game-winner when Adam Rappin got behind Emile Garcia and Michael Wignot, the IUPUI freshman center backs. Rappin put a solid shot on goal that Keever was able to keep out of the net, however, the rebound came free to Sandoval who slotted the game-winner.

It was Sandoval's first goal of the season.

"It was a bang-bang rebound play and we didn't pick up," Franklin said. "Keever kept us in the match. He made three point blank saves in the first half just to keep us even."

Keever finished the day with nine saves and lowered his goals against average to 1.21 in the process. WIU goalkeeper Stephen Paterson had three saves as the Fighting Leathernecks outshot IUPUI 21-6. Western's Arthur Paszkowski led all players with five attempts while no IUPUI player attempted more than one.

The Jaguars' best scoring opportunity came when a ball was served in to Wignot at the 12-yard mark, but the rookie was unable to get the ball to his feet and put a clean touch on the ball.

IUPUI will now return home to host crosstown rival Butler on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Kuntz Stadium. All youth soccer players that come wearing their club jerseys will be admitted for free while their accompanying adult will be admitted for just $2.
