INDIANAPOLIS -- Having not competed in over a month, the IUPUI swimming and diving teams returned to the pool on Friday and Saturday, taking part in the University of Indianapolis Invitational at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Pool.
The Jaguars tallied 20 total podiums in a meet in which no team scores were kept. Overall, the University of Indianapolis controlled the meet, winning 17-of-18 events on Friday and losing just two on Saturday. On the men's side, IUPUI and UIndy competed in a dual, while Butler joined IUPUI and UIndy on the women's side.
IUPUI took their first event win in the men's 100 backstroke, as
Michael Steurer,
Neal Ross and
Jordan Johnson finished 1-2-3 in the event. On Saturday,
Tyler McGowan recorded IUPUI's second win, as he won the 50 backstroke in 26.58; Steurer was third in the event, touching the wall in 26.89.
Stuerer also picked up a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle to tally his third podium of the meet, which led all Jaguar swimmers.
On the women's side,
Natalie Jarrett led the Jaguars with two podiums, as she tallied IUPUI's first podium of the meet, finishing third in the 100 backstroke. The freshman took second in the 100 individual medley, touching the wall in 1:05.17.
In the relays, both the men and women took third in two different relays, with the men placing third in both short relays - the 200 freestyle and 200 medley. The women were third in both distance relays - the 400 medley and 400 freestyle.
The Jaguar swimmers and divers will return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 17, when they continue to tune up for The Summit League Championships. IUPUI will venture to Charleston, Ill., to take on Eastern Illinois. The meet will begin at 2 p.m. CT.
