ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Summit League has announced that IUPUI senior volleyball player Chelsea Bastin has been named The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week.

Bastin earns the Defensive Player of the Week award for the first time in her career after being named to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team following IUPUI’s runner-up performance in the tournament, which was hosted by the University of Memphis.

The Roncalli High School-product led the Jaguars’ defense, finishing with a team-high 55 digs over the four matches, averaging 3.67 digs in 15 sets of play.  Bastin had double-digit dig efforts in each of IUPUI’s matches.

Against Troy, Bastin led all players with 18 digs, helping IUPUI tally 69 digs in their four-set loss.  Bastin finished with 17 in the Jaguars’ five-set win over Memphis in their Friday evening nightcap, as IUPUI finished with 100 digs for the match.

Over two wins on Saturday, Bastin recorded 20 digs, as the Jaguars did not drop a set versus Iona and Indiana State to finish with a 3-1 record in the tournament.  In both matches, the Indianapolis-native had 10 digs.

The senior libero also recorded her first two kills of the season.  For the year, Bastin leads the Jaguars with 114 digs, an average of 4.07 per set.

The IUPUI volleyball team will take their Summit League-leading 5-2 record to Muncie, Ind., on Tuesday, when they take on Ball State University.  The Jaguars will cap their tournament schedule with a trip to the Inntowner Invitational at the University of Wisconsin Sept. 12-13.
