WATERLOO, Iowa - The IUPUI women's soccer team turned in its first shutout of 2008 and got second half goals from a pair of freshmen en route to a 2-0 win at Northern Iowa on Sunday. Junior goalkeeper Jamie Farrell was credited with her sixth career shutout to become the program's all-time leader in that category.

"I thought today was indicative of what we're capable of doing," IUPUI Head Coach Chris Johnson said. "We did a real nice job defensively and were very organized. We really cleaned things up ahead of time and a considerable number of their shots were from distance."

IUPUI (2-3-0) outshot UNI 15-6 overall and 10-4 on frame, but didn't find the back of the net until the 65th minute when freshman Alicia Brock continued to impress. Brock received the ball along the right side of the 18-yard box and worked through a pair of defenders before putting a left-footed shot past UNI (0-6-1) goalkeeper Lauren Potzman. It was Brock's team-high third score of the season and her first-ever game-winning goal.

Less than 10 minutes later, freshman Megan Hock made the most of her collegiate debut by capping a nice setup from teammate Alison Smith. Hock played the ball to Smith and continued to run through the defense. Smith made a heady give-and-go pass to Hock, accounting for her second assist of the season.

Hock had missed the team's first four games due to injury. She and Brock led the Jags with three shot attempts each.

"They couldn't keep up with Alicia," Johnson said. "They kind of beat her up a little bit, so we put Ali in there. They couldn't push Ali around like they did Alicia and that led to the second goal."

Defensively, Johnson employed a 3-5-2 for the first time this year as Anna Pigg, Lindsey Warfield and Kelly Williams anchored the back line. Williams cleared a ball off the back line early in the match to keep the shutout intact and the stiff wind helped IUPUI to a 9-1 first half shot advantage.

"UNI was a lot like us," Johnson said. "They're not a flashy team, they just worked really hard. We used our speed advantage in a couple positions to keep them off balance."

Farrell needed four saves in the shutout and Potzman recorded eight stops for UNI.

After opening the season with five straight road games, the Jaguars will play their home opener on Friday night at Kuntz Stadium when they host South Dakota in a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m.. Live stats will be available after kickoff on IUPUIJags.com.
