INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women’s tennis team narrowly missed picking up head coach Cameron Benjmain’s first career win on Friday night, falling to Grand Valley State, 4-3, before dropping a 5-2 decision to Wisconsin-Milwaukee Saturday morning at the West Indy Racquet Club.

IUPUI took the doubles point from Grand Valley State, picking up wins at No. 1 doubles from Allison Thompson and Vanessa Carna and at No. 2 from Andrea Burkhardt and Emily Holsapple. 

However, Grand Valley State rallied to take four of the six singles matches to claim the victory. At No. 3 singles, Carna rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory, while Holsapple came back to win, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4.

Burkhardt narrowly lost at No. 2, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6.

After dropping the evening match, the Jaguars were up early to take on Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Thompson and Carna got the Jags started on the right foot with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, while Burkhardt and Holsapple dominated their No. 2 match, 8-2.

Unfortunately for IUPUI, Burkhardt was the only Jaguar to win her singles match, winning at No. 1, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (6).

The Jaguars will be back in action on Saturday, March 1, when they venture to Peducah, Ky., to take on Southern Illinois University.
