INDIANAPOLIS - According to the most recent NCAA statistical release, the IUPUI basketball team continues to lead the country in free throw shooting at 81.2 percent. Florida State is second at 79.1 percent.
It marks the second straight week IUPUI has been atop the standings.
Individually, senior Austin Montgomery is now tops in the nation at a perfect 100 percent. The 6-foot-5 swingman has hit all 23 of his attempts this season and has knocked down 29 straight, dating back to last year. He recently reached the NCAA minimum, to be eligible for inclusion.
As a team, IUPUI connected on 24-of-27 (88.9 percent) in Saturday’s 71-63 win over Western Michigan in The Jungle. It marked IUPUI’s first-ever win over WMU and the program’s second-ever victory over a Mid-American Conference foe.
The Jaguars (7-2), riding a six-game winning streak, will host Florida Gulf Coast (3-7) in The Jungle tonight, with tipoff slated for 7:00 p.m.. Greg Rakestraw (pbp) will call the action on Freedom 95.9 FM, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30.
