BROOKINGS, SD - Under rainy, cold conditions, the women's soccer team lost a 2-1 contest at South Dakota State on Sunday afternoon at Fishback Soccer Park.
"It was obviously not the result we wanted," IUPUI head coach Chris Johnson said. "It was some pretty nasty conditions - cold and raining for most of the game."
IUPUI freshman MaryBeth McMillan scored a goal for the second time in as many games, but SDSU (4-3-3, 3-0-1 Summit) got the eventual game-winner in the 67th minute.
South Dakota State's Heather Hill opened the scoring in the 16th minute off an assist from Kelsey Worcester and the Jackrabbits took a 1-0 lead into halftime. IUPUI (1-9-2, 0-3-0 Summit) knotted the game in the just over five minutes into the second half.
McMillan struck for her team-best third goal of the season by drilling a free kick past SDSU goalkeeper Brienna Rogers. IUPUI and sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Farrell absorbed a flurry before the Jacks finally broke through in the 67th minute.
Kaitlin Justice notched her third score of the year for the game-winner.
SDSU doubled IUPUI in total shots 18-6 and earned a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Farrell made three saves for the Jaguars while McMillan led the team with three shot attempts.
IUPUI returns home to host Oral Roberts next Friday night in a Summit League showdown at Kuntz Stadium Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m..
