INDIANAPOLIS - Butler overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to rally for a 3-2 win over IUPUI at the Butler Bowl on Wednesday afternoon. BU's Eduardo Garcia scored the game-winner with just 76 ticks left off an assist from Connor Burt. The loss snapped the Jaguars' second-long three-game winning streak.
All five of the goals were scored in the south goal as both squads offenses benefitted from a stiff tailwind.
On the game-winner, Burt sent a long lead pass to Garcia, who had nothing but senior goalkeeper Peter Brasovan between he and the goal after a 40 yard carry. Brasovan and defender Ryan Brumbaugh forced Garcia left, who rolled a tough angled shot into the open net.
Butler needed two Frank Patano goals to pull the Bulldogs even.
Patano headed a pass from Garcia past IUPUI senior goalkeeper Peter Brasovan in the 48th minute for his 10th goal of the year.. Later, he scored No. 11 with just under 22 minutes left thanks to a long rolling through ball from Matt Sall.
Sall led the streaking Patano perfectly, who was able to beat Brasovan who had challenged off his back line.
Senior Chris Wey had put the Jaguars up midway through the first half with a highlight reel goal. The 5-foot-11 midfielder carried the ball from just inside the left sideline to the top of the 18-yard box before driving a blast to the top left-hand corner of the net. It was Wey's second goal of the season and the tenth of his collegiate career.
Fellow senior Adrian Conrad made it 2-0 before halftime thanks to a gorgeous set piece from senior Vangel Nacovski. Nacovski flared a restart from over 30 yards out to the middle of the six-yard box, where Conrad fended off his mark and headed a shot just inside the left post for his third score of the year.
Butler accumulated an 18-11 shot advantage and 3-0 edge on corner kicks. Conrad led the Jags with three shots.
Brasovan made four saves in defeat while BU's Nick Hegeman made three stops.
IUPUI returns to action this weekend when it takes on Oakland in Rochester on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.. Both teams enter the match atop the Summit League with undefeated conference records.
