TULSA, Okla. - The IUPUI women's soccer team had their second successive impressive outing to open their conference season Saturday evening in Tulsa, Okla. The Jaguars battled Oral Roberts to a 1-1 double overtime tie after a wild shootout that featured 61 shots between the two teams.

The entire game was back and forth with end-to-end action, particularly in the second half where the two teams fired off 27 shots. IUPUI's 25 shots for the game tied the fifth-best single-game total in school history.

The Jaguars (5-4-2, 1-0-1) opened up the scoring just under 20 minutes into the game. Pressing the attack, sophomore Emily Hicks crossed the ball into the box where junior Sheri Levack jumped to challenge for it.

Levack and the defender knock the ball in the air, but Levack was able to jump again and head the ball back to junior Jennifer Scorniaenchi at the top of the box.

Scorniaenchi then hocked the ball past the goaltender into the upper right hand corner of the goal on a shot that will make the team's season ending highlight film. It was Scorniaenchi's second goal of the season.

"I thought it was just an unbelievable highlight film shot," IUPUI Head Coach Chris Johnson said. "For Sheri to be able to go up and win the ball and get it to Jen and then have Jen get off the shot she did was just incredible."

The Jaguars then held the Golden Eagles (1-6-3, 0-1-2) scoreless until late in the game when the hosts knotted the score in the 82nd minute on a controversial goal. ORU sent the ball into the box off of a corner kick where it was knocked down around the penalty stop. It finally settled on the foot of ORU's Tamara Waller who shot it towards the goal.

Sophomore Lindsey Warfield stuck her leg out by the post in an attempt to stop the ball, but it trickled over for the score. The Jaguars protested that the ball didn't cross the line, but the referee ruled otherwise.

IUPUI's best scoring chance the remainder of the game came in the first overtime when Hicks served a ball towards the far right post that the ORU goalie just managed to tip wide.

"It was a very well played game with the girls playing hard the entire 110 minutes," Johnson said. "I was very proud of the effort that they put forth tonight."

Freshman goalkeeper Jamie Farrell played the entire game, turning aside a career-best 12 Oral Roberts shots on goal. That tied the fifth-best individual total in school history.

"We are right where we want to be at this point of the season," Johnson said. "Getting four points after the two opening Mid-Con games against Centenary and Oral Roberts puts us in a great position to make the conference tournament."

"Two years ago, we lost both of these games and didn't have a point, so getting four points this year gives us a lot of confidence. We have to score more goals, but we have two conference games at home over the next two weeks."

The Jaguars host cross-town rival Butler on Tuesday, October 3, at 7 p.m., before welcoming Southern Utah to Kuntz Stadium next Friday for a 7 p.m. conference tilt.
