INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net for the second consecutive match, this time falling to Indiana State at Kuntz Stadium on Sunday afternoon, 2-0. The Jags outshot Indiana State 17-12 and had six more corner kicks than the guests, but were shut out for the fourth time this season.

"We've talked about it all season long that we've needed somebody to step up and start putting balls away for us," IUPUI head coach Chris Johnson said. "We're creating opportunities, we're just not getting anything to show for it.

"If we want this team to get back to winning games, we've got to score goals. We've scored one goal in the past three games and that's just not going to get the job done."

Meanwhile, Indiana State (5-4-0) tallied twice in a 65-second burst early in the second half to steal the momentum - and the win.

Sarah Whiteley scored the game-winner just over nine minutes into the second half, marking her third score of the year. Jennifer Milward forced Jessie Mann to save a drive from outside the 18-yard box, which the IUPUI senior goalkeeper knocked down, but couldn't secure. Whiteley sprinted in and blasted a shot from point blank range into the open net.

Moments later, Whiteley threaded a lead pass to Amanda Gogel, who split IUPUI's last line of defense before beating Mann for her second goal of the year. From there, ISU was able to hunker down and thwart IUPUI's attack.

Freshman Hilary Thomas nearly broke the shutout with just under five minutes left when she headed a ball that ISU goalkeeper Rachel Rudzis lunged to her left to corral.

IUPUI (4-4-1) controlled the pace from the outset, trying seven of the game's first eight shots and getting four first half corners. Rudzis made four of her six saves in the first stanza.

IUPUI freshman Jamie Farrell made two stops in a scoreless first half, while Mann recorded two saves in the second half. Farrell ran her string of scoreless minutes in net to just under 308.

Offensively, sophomore Emily Hicks led the Jags with a career-high seven shot attempts, while senior midfielder Stacy Downing tried four. Meaghan Gaffney had a team-best four shots for ISU.

"Emily was very dangerous up top the entire game," Johnson said. "She gave us a lot of opportunities just be playing balls in and serving balls behind them."

IUPUI returns to action on Tuesday when they hit the road to play at Detroit. That match is slated to kickoff at 4:00 p.m..
