CHICAGO - The IUPUI women's soccer team continued its struggles on the road, dropping a 3-0 decision at Loyola on Sunday. The host Ramblers outshot the Jaguars 21-9 overall and 9-5 on goal.
Junior midfielder Sheri Levack and Angie Pilat each paced the IUPUI attack with three shots each.
Loyola (11-5-3) took an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute on a drive from 25 yards out from Mary Dale, beating IUPUI (5-7-5) senior goalkeeper Jessie Mann. Later, the IUPUI defense turned the ball over deep in its own territory, setting up a one-on-one opportunity for Loyola's Cynthi Morote-Ariza.
Morote-Ariza was able to beat Mann off the dribble for her ninth goal of the season.
The Ramblers capped the game's scoring in the 54th minute, when Dale netted her second goal of the game. Jackie Vera set the table on the goal, playing a ball to Heather Lau. Lau then sent a cross in to Dale, who put a shot past IUPUI freshman goalkeeper Jamie Farrell for her fifth score of the season.
Levack put two of her three attempts on net, as Loyola's Emily Peick made five stops in the shutout. Mann made five first half saves for the Jags, while Farrell stopped four shots in the second half.
The IUPUI defense was forced to play without starting center back Lisa Gebhard, who was assessed a red card in the second half of Friday's match at Valparaiso.
The loss was IUPUI's third straight and extended the team's winless streak to seven straight matches.
IUPUI concludes its regular season on Thursday afternoon when they host Oakland at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. The Jags must win that match to have any shot of making the upcoming Mid-Continent Conference Tournament. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. and admission is free of charge as part of the department's Fan Appreciation days.
