Box Score

MURRAY, Ky. - Sophomore Angie Pilat (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) assisted on a goal and scored one of her own in a seven-minute second half stretch as the Jags played Murray State to a 2-2 tie.

The Jags fell behind just over seven minutes into the match when the Racers Melissa Curry scored her first goal of the year. Jessica Fioranelli started the build on a corner kick to Sara Struve. Struve shifted a pass to Curry, who put a shot past IUPUI goalkeeper Jessie Mann (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) into the left corner of the net.

Both teams had chances to add on in the first half, but Mann made three saves in the first 45 minutes while MSU keeper Heather Jones also made three stops.

The Jags came out in the second half with a more aggressive approach, getting two quick scores. Junior Stacy Downing (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) knotted the score in the 51st minute thanks to an assist from Pilat. Pilat sent a short pass to the Central Michigan transfer, who netted her fifth goal of the season from straight away.

Pilat gave the Jaguars a brief lead in the 58th minute when she tallied for the fourth time of the season. Sophomore Sheri Levack (Portage, Ind./Portage), who was solid in the midfield, set up the play by rolling a lead pass to her former club teammate. The 5-foot-2 forward finished the play by angling a shot from right to left, giving Levack her fourth assist of the year.

MSU made it a 2-2 score in the 61st minute against IUPUI senior goalkeeper Sarah Webster (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) on a rebound goal. Krista Llewellyn put a shot on goal that Webster saved, but couldn't possess. Llewellyn followed her attempt and put a shot just inside the left post for her first tally of the season.

IUPUI kept the heat on, including having two shots hit posts, but were unable to score the rest of the way. The Jags outshot Murray State 4-2 in the two overtimes. Both teams had 17 attempts for the match.

Junior Mia Moody (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) led the IUPUI attack with a season-high seven shots while Curry had five tries for the Racers.

The tie moved IUPUI to 2-4-1 for the year while Murray is now 1-5-1.

"This is definitely a step up from where we've been," IUPUI head coach Chris Johnson said. "We cleaned up some of the mental lapses we've been experiencing.

"I thought Stacy (Downing), Sheri (Levack) and Mary (Galouzis) did a really good job controlling the midfield and taking care of the ball. For the second straight game, Maggie (Mistovich) did a great job in the back."

The Jags will have a short week of practice to prepare for Friday's conference opening match at Southern Utah. IUPUI will then play Boise State in Cedar City, Utah on Saturday.

"I think we're ready for conference play to start. We've kept improving and worked some things out."
