Sophomore women's track runner Rebekah Jones has been chosen the IUPUI Sahm's Athlete of the Month for April 2012. The Indianapolis-native was consistently the Jaguars top runner for the month including a standout effort at the Apr. 21 Dave Rankin Invitational at Purdue.
At the Miami Invitational, Jones was IUPUI's top performer in both the 5,000m and 1,500m races, placing 21st overall in the latter in a time of 4:50.14. In the 5K, she took 15th overall at 18:19.87.
At the Purdue meet, she posted new personal record times in both events, placing fifth at 17:59.81 in the 5K race to eclipse 18 minutes for the first time in her career. In the 1,500, she placed eighth at 4:44.28, marking the quickest time by an IUPUI runner this season.
Jones capped the month by running 4:47.22 in the 1,500 at the 2012 Stan Lyons Invitational at Butler.
