For the third straight month, Jernisha Cann has been recognized as the IUPUI Female Student-Athlete of the Month. Cann averaged a double-double for the second consecutive month in leading the Jaguars to a 5-3 record in January.
The Kansas City, Mo.-native had two double-doubles in the month, tallying 21 points and 12 rebounds in a 59-45 win at Centenary on Jan. 19 and following up that effort with 18 points and 14 boards in a 68-49 victory over Oral Roberts two days later.
For her efforts, Cann was named The Summit League Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Jan. 22.
Five times in eight games Cann had 10 or more rebounds, leading or tying for the team lead in seven contests.
With their 5-3 January record, the Jaguars moved above .500 in Summit League play, currently placing in a tie for third following Saturday's win over UMKC. Cann leads The Summit in rebounding with 9.6 boards in 22 games, while her 12.5 points per game is 13th.
