Senior women's track runner Rachel Zajac has been named IUPUI's Female Athlete of the Month for the month of April 2013. The veteran posted a pair of new outdoor track records during the month, while also recording times ranking in The Summit League's top 15.
On Apr. 12, Zajac posted a new school record in the 800m at the Ball State Invitational, finishing the race in a time of 2:19.44 to place second overall. Her time was the 15th quickest 800 in the league this season.
Two weeks later, Zajac notched the ninth-fastest 1,500m time in The Summit League this season at the Stan Lyons Invitational, finishing that race in a time of 4:42.25. Pulling a double at that meet, Zajac just missed lowering her 800m school record that day as well.
Off the track, Zajac had an impressive month in her role as Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President, forming a Student-Athlete Talent Show on Sunday, Apr. 28 in The Jungle in front of nearly 200 attendees. The event attracted participation and attendance from 15 of the department's 16 sports.
