Senior Tyler McGowan has been tabbed the IUPUI Sahm’s Male Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of February. McGowan helped the Jaguars to a sixth-place showing at the 2011 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium.
McGowan was a part of breaking four school records during the meet, including three in individual events.
The Vincennes, Ind., native opened the meet as part of the 800 freestyle relay, which placed sixth en route to setting a new school record with a time of 7:05.18.
In his individual events, McGowan placed fifth in the 500 freestyle clocking in at 4:40.47, before improving to a fourth-place showing in the 200 butterfly. In the 200 butterfly, McGowan’s time of 1:52.49 bettered his own school record by nearly two seconds.
Finally, McGowan became an all-conference performer in the 400 individual medley with a third-place time of 4:04.15. The third-place finish in the 400 IM upped his single-season podium total to 28, establishing a new school record.
McGowan concluded his career with 68 career podiums, placing him fourth in the IUPUI record books.
