Redshirt freshman Zoey Johnson has been named IUPUI's Female Athlete of the Month for March 2016. The Seymour, Ind.-native set new school records in both the 3,000 and 5,000m events during the month.
Johnson began the month by running 9:58.97 while winning the 3K at the Charlotte 49er Classic, becoming the first IUPUI runner to go under 10 minutes in the process. With the win, she took more than 11 seconds off the previous outdoor mark, held by teammate Savannah Turner.
Six days later, Johnson registered a time of 17:08.07 in the 5K at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold, trimming more than six seconds off the previous school record.
For the season, she leads The Summit League and ranks 38th nationally in the 5,000m event.
