IUPUI sophomore basketball standout Alex Young has been named Male Student-Athlete of the Month for December. The 6-foot-6 swingman averaged a team-high 19.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game in eight contests and shot an incredible 54.3 percent from behind the arc. Overall, he hit 49.5 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent at the charity stripe.

Young's hot play helped the Jags go 5-3 overall during the month, and more importantly, open 3-0 in Summit League play. 

The Northwest High School graduate scored in double-digits in all eight games and scored 20 points or better four times. He capped the month with a career-high 29 points in the 79-69 win at IPFW on Dec. 31, hitting 12-of-21 shots overall. He twice matched his career-high with five threes in a game and dished out a season-high three assists at Memphis on Dec. 28.

Young netted 23 points in the win over North Dakota State on Dec. 5 and had 22 points and six rebounds in the first-ever win over Duquesne on Dec. 19. He also tied his career-high with four steals in each of those contests.
