The IUPUI Department of Athletics has announced that senior men's tennis player Gabriel Garcia has been chosen its Male Student-Athlete of the Month for March.
Garcia went 3-2 while playing at No. 1 singles as IUPUI went 1-6 during the month.
The Guayaguil, Ecuador-native found the winner's column on March 21, rallying for a 1-6, 7-6(5), 10-5 victory over his opponent from Butler University. Four days later, Garcia came from behind again, winning 1-6, 7-6(6), 10-5 to pick up a point for the Jaguars in their match versus Vincennes University.
Leading IUPUI into their first Summit League cluster, Garcia helped the Jaguars pick up their first win of the conference season, winning 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles against Centenary. IUPUI went on to win the match, 4-0.
In the Jaguars other two conference matches, Garcia's matches were not completed.
For the season, Garcia is 9-12 overall and 6-6 at No. 1 singles.
