Men's Track athlete Ryan Cutter has been selected as IUPUI's Athlete of the Month for January 2014. The Chesterton, Ind.-native set new school records in both the 800 and 3,000m events during the month as the squads top performer.
Cutter opened the indoor season with a 1:57.83 800m time at the Gene Edmonds Invitational, clearing the program's previous school record by a full second. He was later named Summit League Athlete of the Week for his efforts.
He capped the month with the program's best-ever time in the 3,000m event, running 8:21.28 at the Indiana Relays on Jan. 31. Cutter earned a spot in the 16-man invitational race and was up to the task, finishing eighth overall while shedding 17 seconds off the previous school record.
His 800m time remains the 6th fastest in The Summit this season while his 3,000m time is the 3rd-best in the league during indoor season.
