Sophomore men's soccer standout Eduardo Cortes has been named the IUPUI Male Athlete of the Month for the month of August. The Jaguars' goalkeeper got off to a solid start, blanking reigning Horizon League champion Detroit in the 2013 season opener on Aug. 30.

Cortes turned in five saves and held 2012 Horizon League Player of the Year Adam Bedell scoreless as the Jaguars played Detroit to 0-0 double overtime tie. Cortes was later named The Summit League's Defensive Player of the Week after completing his sixth career shutout. It was the fifth time in his collegiate career he's earned the league's weekly award. 

Including the preseason, Cortes has been brilliant to start the year, yielding just one goal (on a PK) in more than 220 minutes in net.
