For the first time in her career, sophomore Julia Whitted has been selected as the IUPUI Female Student-Athlete of the Month. Whitted averaged 20.4 points and 10.1 rebounds over eight games in helping the Jaguars to the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Summit League Tournament.
The Staunton, Ind.-native posted five consecutive double-doubles from Feb. 11-25, a stretch in which IUPUI went 3-2. Whitted had 26 points and 14 rebounds in a key 69-66 win over Oral Roberts on Feb. 16 while her 24 points and 13 boards helped carry IUPUI to a 72-62 overtime win at IPFW on Feb. 25.
Whitted also had a career-high 27 points at the beginning of the month in a 71-46 win over Southern Utah on Feb. 4. The sophomore did not score below 13 points in any of her eight games.
For the season, Whitted is averaging 13.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.0 blocks over 30 games.
The Jaguars will take on Southern Utah in the first round of The Summit League Tournament, with the tipoff scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT from the John Q. Hammons Arena at the UMAC in Tulsa, Okla.
