IUPUI head women’s basketball coach Austin Parkinson completed his coaching staff announcing the hiring of former Notre Dame standout point guard Ashley Barlow as an assistant coach on July 19, 2011 and the 2012-13 season will be Barlow's second with the IUPUI program.
In her first season with the Jags, Barlow worked with the guards and was in charge of travel and film exchange, while assisting in recruiting, scouting and game planning.
Barlow completed a historical career for the Fighting Irish in 2010, which saw her emerge as one of the most versatile players in Notre Dame women's basketball history. She is the only Fighting Irish basketball player, male or female, to eclipse 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists and 250 steals in a career, while also becoming one of only three players in program history to register at least 60 steals in four consecutive seasons (Coquese Washington and Niele Ivey).
Upon graduation, Barlow found her name etched among the Top 10 on 12 of Notre Dame's career statistical charts.
In addition to serving as a two-time captain, Barlow was a three-time all-BIG EAST Conference selection and a 2010 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)/State Farm All-Region I honoree during her senior season.
The Indianapolis native graduated from Notre Dame in 2010 earning degrees in management-entrepreneurship and sociology. During the 2010-11 season, she played professionally in Israel for Elitzur Rishon Le-Zion averaging 20.2 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game, 3.5 assists per game, and 2.4 steals per game. Her scoring average and steals per game average ranked second and sixth in the league, respectively.
Prior to starring at Notre Dame, Barlow suited up at Pike High School where she was a WBCA High School All-American and a two-time all-state selection. She holds 12 school records at Pike High School, including marks for points in game (42), season (653) and career (1,726), as well as career scoring average.
“Ashley is so well respected here in the Midwest, and specifically Indianapolis, because she not only had an excellent basketball career, but she conducts herself with the utmost class off the court as well,” Parkinson added. “I think she will be a tremendous resource for the ladies in our program and I am glad she is on board.”
Barlow is the second member of her family to step into The Jungle joining her brother, David, who served as an all-conference point guard from 2003-07.
