Head women’s basketball coach Austin Parkinson announced on June 1, 2011, his first hire as the leader of the women's basketball program as Alex Webster was tabbed the Associate Head Coach after spending one season as the recruiting coordinator at Butler University.
"I am absolutely thrilled for this opportunity to join the staff at IUPUI,” Webster said. “After just one season, Coach Parkinson has already succeeded in pointing this program in the right direction and I'm extremely excited to follow his leadership and build the Jaguars in to a perennial contender in the Summit League."
"We are very excited to be able to welcome Alex Webster to the IUPUI basketball family,” Parkinson said. “She is a high energy, high character person who has established herself here in the Midwest as a rising star in the coaching ranks."
Webster spent the 2010-11 season a few miles north of the IUPUI campus at Butler, where she helped the Bulldogs to a 20-12 overall record, a second-place regular-season finish in the Horizon League, and a postseason berth in the WNIT. In her lone season at Butler, Webster served as the recruiting coordinator and was in charge of player development for the guards. One of her guards, Alyssa Pittman, was tabbed the 2010-11 Horizon League Sixth Player of the Year.
Prior to moving to the Butler campus, Webster spent three seasons at IPFW. Webster broke into the coaching ranks as an assistant with the Mastodons during the 2007-08 campaign, before elevating her status to recruiting coordinator for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
While in Fort Wayne, Webster recruited a pair of 2009-10 Second-Team All-Summit League performers in Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese, who picked up first-team and honorable-mention all-conference honors, respectively, this past year.
“Having grown up and worked in this state, Alex has strong recruiting ties and is great at developing relationships,” Parkinson added. “I think her knowledge and passion for the game will be invaluable for our staff and developing the ladies in this program.”
In addition to her duties as recruiting coordinator at IPFW, Webster also assisted with the planning and execution of practice plans while working primarily with the guards.
Webster made the jump into coaching following a stellar four-year playing career at Wisconsin-Green Bay, where she helped the Phoenix to three NCAA Tournament appearances and one showing in the WNIT.
Her leadership skills were evident during her playing career (2003-07) serving as team captain during her senior season coupled with two-year involvement on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Webster graduated in 2007 with a degree in mathematics and minors in business administration and secondary education.
