Owen Chew is entering his third season as an assistant coach on Maggie Calcaterra’s staff, working primarily with the pitchers.

Since joining the coaching staff, Chew has helped the Jaguars land some top regional talent and build depth on the pitching staff. Last year, the pitching staff recorded 162 strikeouts, marking the program’s most since the 2000 season.

Chew has a rich history of mentoring college-bound players, having worked with 38 Division I scholarship pitchers the past 19 years. In 1993, he was on staff with the Lady Hustle Softball 14-and-under squad which won the AFA National Championship.

Two years later, his R&R Gold 18-and-under squad took 3rd place in the ASA Gold Division and won 76 consecutive games.

In 2002 and ‘03, he helped R&R Gold to back-to-back National Championship appearances, including winning the 18-and-under title in 2002. Since moving to Indiana from California, he helped the 2005 Indian Creek High School team to a conference championship.

He also gives pitching lessons at Center Brook Sports in Martinsville.
