Ben Ely joined the IUPUI Sports Information staff in February 2016 and currently acts as the Sports Information Director, serving as the primary contact for women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, tennis and swimming & diving.
Ely comes to Indianapolis following the completion of his master’s degree in Emerging Media and Communications at the University of Texas at Dallas in December 2015. While there, he served as a graduate assistant and New Media Coordinator to the athletics department, overseeing the production of all game day and highlight video efforts as well as the investigation and implementation of new media.
He also spent time as a graduate assistant and Sports Information Director to the volleyball team at Illinois State University for the 2013 season. Before completing his bachelor’s degree in Communications at Angelo State University in May 2012, Ely worked as a student assistant to the athletics department, providing play-by-play broadcast coverage of live sporting events while also serving time as a public address announcer.
The San Angelo, Texas native also worked as an independent broadcasting talent for Foster Communications from 2011-12, providing play-by-play radio coverage for multiple sports, with an emphasis on men’s & women’s basketball, baseball and softball.
Other efforts from Ely include spending time as a video production intern with RamTV, as he was tasked with developing and implementing stories of interests from the Angelo State athletics department. During that time, he was responsible for the operation of multiple pieces of video equipment, and utilized his knowledge to record and edit video segments.
Son to David and Frances, he is the youngest of three sons and currently resides in the Southern region of Indianapolis.
