WOMEN'S GOLF IN FIFTH AFTER DAY ONE OF BRITTANY KELLY CLASSIC

Jaguars card rounds of 304 and 305 on Monday (Sept. 14)

YORKTOWN, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis women's golf team carded rounds of 304 and 305 on day one of Ball State's Brittany Kelly Classic on Monday (Sept. 14) and sits fifth of 14 teams heading into Tuesday's finale. 

Host Ball State leads the way at 577 and Morehead State is second at 586. Meanwhile, Green Bay's Riley Pechinski is atop the leaderboard at 7-under 137 and has a five-shot lead over her closest competition. 

Sophomore Li (Sherry) Xia leads the Jaguars at 148 (72-76) and is tied for 13th among the 91-player field. 

"I felt really solid today and stayed patient throughout both rounds," Xia said. "Overall, I'm happy with how I played."

In the morning round, Xia led the way with an even par 72, including three birdies, while classmate Olivia Aronhalt shot 1-over 73. Junior Cassidy Ayres was 1-under at the turn before ultimately finishing at 6-over 78 and rookie Janelle Garcia rounded out the scoring group at 81. Emma Frauhiger saw her opening round 82 discarded in the 5-count-4 format while Nina Wojtczak was top among the three individual entries at 83. 

In round two, Garcia rebounded with a 1-over 73 and Xia shot 4-over 76. Aronhalt posted a second round 77 and Ayres and Frauhiger both shot 79. Both Wojtczak and junior Lexi Stuart shot 6-over 78 in the afternoon rounds. 

IU Indy finished the day tied for third overall with 23 birdies as Garcia made a team-high six. Xia had a team-high 23 pars in the opening 36 holes. 

The Jaguars will begin play on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. from The Players Club at Woodland Trails.
