WOMEN'S GOLF OPENS SEASON WITH FIFTH-PLACE FINISH AT YSU ROSEANN SCHWARTZ INVITE

SHARON, Pa. - The IU Indianapolis women's golf team opened the 2026-27 season with a fifth-place finsih at the YSU Roseann Schwartz Invitational on Monday (Aug. 31) held at the Avalon at Buhl Golf Course. The Jaguars carded rounds of 310 and 305 on the par 70 course to finish among the top half of the field. 

Ohio State coasted to the team win at 572 while Akron was second at 588. Bowling Green (589), Youngstown State (597) and the Jaguars (615) rounded out the top five. 

Sophomore Olivia Aronhalt led the way, tying for 17th overall at 151 (71-80) while freshman Janelle Garcia and sophomore Li (Sherry) Xia were next in line at 155 each. 

"The greens were pretty small, so hitting them consistently was one of the hardest parts of the round," Aronhalt said. "I was able to hit almost every green, which gave me a lot of good opportunities to score."

In the morning round, sophomore Emma Frauhiger was countable with a round of 80 while junior Cassidy Ayres was the team's low number in round two with a 4-over 74. 

Senior Nina Wojtczak paced the three individual entries at 160 (79-81) while junior Alexandra Chiew notched a second round, 9-over 79 as an individual. 

Aronhalt's opening round, 1-over 71 saw her make a pair of birdies against a trio of bogeys. Xia also had a pair of birdies as part of her 79. 

Garcia got to 2-under early in her second round with birdies on her first and fourth holes while Xia closed her round with nine straight pars. Similarly, Ayres played her final nine holes of the tournament to even par, keyed by a birdie on her 35th hole of the day. 

Xia finished tied for seventh among the field with 22 pars while Aronhalt and Garcia had a team-high three birdies each. 

The Jaguars will return to action on Sept. 14-15 when they compete in the Brittany Kelly Classic at The Players Club at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Ind.
