INDIANAPOLIS — The IU Indianapolis men's soccer team (2-1) secured a 1-0 victory over Bowling Green (1-2) at Carroll Stadium on Friday evening (Aug. 28), marking their first win over the Falcons since 2004. The Jaguars' defense recorded a shutout with freshman goalkeeper
Peter Field registering four saves in the match, marking a second straight clean sheet.
Bowling Green's offensive efforts were thwarted by Field and a stingy back line that kept the majority of the match in front of them. Field's best first half saves came in the 21st minute against Lucas Brinkman
IU Indy broke the deadlock in the second period when
Thomas Weinrich, who just joined the team earlier this week and was playing in his collegiate debut, scored with the help of
Santiago Sanchez at the 80th minute. Sanchez played Weinrich out to the left before the rookie attacker maneuvered right before curling a low shot just inside the far post for the game-winner. The defense held strong over the final 10-plus minutes, despite persistent pressure from Bowling Green as both teams finished the contest with 13 shots and eight corner kicks.

First Half
- Sanchez took two early shots, one in the 7th minute and another in the 15th minute, testing Bowling Green's defense.
- Field made a crucial save against Bowling Green's Lucas Brinkman in the 21st minute to keep the Jags level.
- Bowling Green's Luciano Perez-Cernuda was active with two attempts, including a shot on target in the 9th minute.
- IU Indy had a major scoring chance in the 41st minute when
Christian Nielsen was on a break and pulled down by BGSU keeper Enzo Gil as the final line of defense, earning a yellow card. Senior defender
Noah Kummrow had a shot attempt on the ensuring free kick, but fired high of target.

- IU Indy started aggressively with two early corner kicks and a shot by
Divinci Huitron, who subbed on briefly for a bloodied Sanchez
- Bowling Green's Caue Ramos and Tyson McCoy each tested IU Indy goalkeeper

"No, I mean, it makes it much easier on me when they're winning every 50/50. Everyone's getting hyped for every 50/50 ball, just doing the dirty work so that we can go do the fun stuff. It's great to play with those boys," Weinrich said of playing in front of the Jaguars' strong defense.
