Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The IU Indianapolis men's soccer team continued its hot start to the 2026 campaign on Wednesday night (Sept. 2) as the Jaguars collected a 1-0 victory at Southern Indiana on a muggy, humid evening at USI's Strassweg Field. The Jaguars continued to use the same formula that's led to the early season success - find a goal and lean on a stingy defense and strong goalkeeping play to earn the victory. 

"I'm incredibly proud of the team with tonight's performance. It was 90 minutes of battle in the heat and the guys worked hard for each other," head coach Keegan Boom said. "Everyone stepped up when needed and performed their roles very well.

"A third clean sheet in a row to top off a a third consecutive win gives us confidence going into conference play."

It marked a third consecutive 1-0 victory for the Jaguars and pushed IU Indy to the program's best start since the 2006 campaign. The Jags extended their scoreless streak to 337 straight minutes dating back to the opening half of the 2-1 loss at Louisville to open the season. 

On Wednesday, the winner came off the right foot of Jose Antonio Herrera, who converted a penalty kick in the 30th minute for his third tally of the season, all from the spot. From there, the Jaguars posted a resilient, bend-but-don't-break defensive effort that saw them yield 12 corner kicks, but just five shots on goal. 

Equally impressive were the full 90 minute efforts of Jayden Quezada, Jai Dindiyal, Jago Thompson-Roberts and Luke Gonda along the back line on a sweltering evening in which real feel temperatures began at 100 degrees. Boom had to reconfigure the group when Noah Kummrow left the field in the opening minutes, forcing Dindiyal to a defensive post and a collection of Jaguars to fill minutes in the midfield. 

After a back-and-forth start, the Jaguars settled in and took advantage when opportunity presented.

Freshman Santiago Sanchez earned the penalty kick as he was chopped down just inside the 18-yard box while trying to spin past a defender. From there, Herrera calmly belted a low liner inside the left post for his 12th career goal and fifth career PK conversion. The Jaguars were content to play keep away for long stretches of the game, picking and choosing when they went on the attack. The second half saw the game open up, allowing the Jaguars to get forward more consistently. 

Freshman Thomas Weinrich tried to double the lead in the 47th minute when he intercepted a pass and sprinted on the counter, but had his shot cleared away by Jacob English, who was charging quickly off his back line. Nathaniel Isom tested English in the 59th minute and Sanchez forced the USI keeper into his best save of the night in the game's final minute. The Jaguars drew a foul at the top of the 18 with under a minute to play and the IU Indy midfielder blistered a shot on frame, forcing English to redirect the shot sideways. From there, Weinrich carried the ball to the corner and bled away the final seconds. 

Freshman Peter Field's best stop of the night came in the 13th minute when he made a quick reaction to bat away an attempt from Edin Cvorovic. Field, the reigning #HLMSOC Defensive Player of the Week, finished with five saves in recording his third shutout of the year. 

Isom led the IU Indy attack with three shot attempts, all on frame, while Weinrich had two attempts off the bench. 

The Jaguars will now open Horizon League play when they travel to Northern Illinois to face the Huskies on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 4:00 p.m. CT (5 Eastern).
