INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis men's soccer team will close out a modest two-game homestand on Friday night (Aug. 28) when the Jaguars host Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m. inside Michael A. Carroll Stadium. The Jaguars are coming off a 1-0 home win over reigning Ohio Valley Conference champion Lindenwood on Monday as senior Jose Antonio Herrera scored an early penalty kick and the defense delivered its first shutout of the season. Freshman Peter Field earned the clean sheet in goal with six saves while the back line provided a stalwart effort in front of him. 

Freshman Santiago Sanchez earned the penalty kick in the 16th minute, leading to Herrera's second goal of the season and tenth of his collegiate career. Lindenwood outshot the Jaguars 16-10 overall and finished with a 7-2 margin on corner kicks, but were unable to solve the IU Indy defense. Field's best save came in the final minute of the match as the rookie made a reaction stop with his left arm on a header that determined to knot the score. Herrera fired a team-high three shot attempts while junior midfielder Jai Dindiyal had two attempts from his midfield spot. 

Senior Nathaniel Isom had the team's best scoring chance in the run of play, blistering a shot from 20 yards out in the 61st minute, forcing Lindenwood keeper Quinn Closson to redirect the attempt over the bar. 

Herrera leads the team with five shot attempts for the season while Dindiyal and Sanchez have two attempts apiece. Field has a 1.00 goals against average in goal, having played all 180 minutes thus far.

"I mean, first and foremost, the kid's got talent. He's confident, that's the major thing. Obviously, you know, the Division I environment is intense. The level's high. We're doing everything we can to help him out, but when he pulls off saves like that, you know, I can't help him with those ones," senior Jago Thompson-Roberts said of Field's performance in goal.

Bowling Green is 1-1 to start the season with a 5-2 home win over Wright State and a 3-0 road loss at Duquesne. Trace Terry leads the BGSU attack with a pair of goals while both Lucas Brinkman and Tyson McCoy have a goal and an assist each. In goal, Enzo Gil has a 2.50 goals against average and seven saves while having yielded five scores. 

SERIES HISTORY
IU Indy is just 1-7-4 all-time against BGSU and 0-3-2 in five meetings in Indianapolis. The Jaguars won the first-ever meeting between the two schools by a 3-2 score back in 2004 and haven't won since. Last year's meeting was a 1-1 draw in Bowling Green.
