The Jaguars (1-1) dominated possession in the game's early stages, later resulting in freshman
Santiago Sanchez earning the penalty kick opportunity. Herrera converted from the spot for his tenth career goal and fourth career game-winner. Coming off shutting out Louisville over the final 45 minutes last week, the Jaguars were similarly stingy on Monday as Field delivered a clean sheet behind a largely veteran back line. For the most part, the back line kept things clean and Field responded with some impressive saves, including a reaction stop on a Maxime Legai header in the game's final minute. Earlier, he stopped a Luca Bartoni attempt in the 80th minute, leaving the Lindenwood (1-1) attacker stunned on the doorstep.
Offensively, the Jaguars were limited in their chances, but still saw
Nathaniel Isom nearly double the lead with a right-footed drive from distance in the 61st minute. On the ensuing corner kick,
Noah Kummrow pushed an attempt wide of frame. Lindenwood finished with a 16-10 shot advantage and 7-2 margin on corner kicks, but put just six attempts on target. Herrera led the IU Indy attack with three shot attempts while junior midfielder
Jai Dindiyal had two attempts, both coming in quick fashion in a first half flurry from near the six-yard box.
The Jags finished with a scant advantage in possession, largely in the midfield. Monday's match marked the first-ever meeting between the two schools while Lindenwood was coming off a 14-3-4 record last season and NCAA Tournament berth.

"I think it's the desire, I think there's a lot of hunger in the group. I think we can feel that across the department, we want to set the tone. I think we have a perfect blend of plenty of young guys that have something to prove, senior guys that have not got a lot of time. I think it's making it go smoothly, then obviously there's a lot of hard work behind the scenes, fresh energy from the coaches," Thompson-Roberts said of the defensive work on Monday.
"It was an opportunity where we felt we could dominate the ball, hold on to the ball, create moments off of it. When we broke lines, let's be dangerous. Let's go forward. An area where we haven't probably been good enough in the first few games, we saw an opportunity today and we executed," Boom said of his team's possession early in Monday's game.
