INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Oakland on Friday afternoon at the West Indy Racquet Club, securing a key Horizon League win.
The Jaguars opened the match by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of
Elle Kotre and
Kally Kadzinski set the tone with a 6-3 victory, while
Sara Jankovic and
Calli Sokolowski followed with a 6-4 win to give IU Indy an early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, IU Indy picked up three crucial victories to clinch the match. Kadzinski battled back after dropping the opening set to earn a gritty 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles. Kotre added another point at No. 5, outlasting her opponent in a three-set battle, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3.
Bella Duncan provided a fourth point with a straight-set victory at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3.
Oakland pushed the match to the brink with wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles, but the Jaguars held on to secure the team victory.
IU Indianapolis is now 2-0 in conference and will continue Horizon League play next weekend when the Jaguars travel to Youngstown State on Saturday, April 11.
