SOFTBALL CLOSES OUT HILLTOPPER SPRING FLING

The Jags fell to Western Kentucky in the final game, 5-0

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – IU Indy wrapped up play at the Hilltopper Spring Fling on Sunday afternoon, falling to Western Kentucky, 5-0, at the WKU Softball Complex.
 
The Jaguars (3-13) were held hitless by WKU pitcher Erica Houge, who struck out six over seven innings to earn the win. IU Indy managed just one baserunner in the contest, as Paige McPhearson reached on a first-inning error.
 
Western Kentucky (15-3) did its damage early, plating four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Maci Masters opened the scoring with a solo home run before Morgan Sharpe delivered an RBI double to left center. Kendle White capped the inning with a two-run homer to center field, giving the Hilltoppers a 4-0 lead.
 
The Jaguars' defense settled in after the big inning. Clara Phariss (1-2) took the loss, allowing four runs in two innings of work. Callie Dickerson was strong in relief, tossing four innings and giving up just one run while striking out three.
 
WKU added its final run in the sixth inning on an RBI walk by White to extend the lead to 5-0.
 
IU Indy was retired in order in six of seven innings as the Hilltoppers secured the shutout to close tournament play.
 
The Jaguars will look to regroup as they return to action next week.
