DAYTON, Ohio – The IU Indianapolis men's tennis team saw its road match at Dayton cut short on Thursday afternoon, as the Flyers secured a 4-0 victory at the Dayton Tennis Center.
The Jaguars battled throughout the singles and doubles lineups, but several matches were left unfinished once Dayton clinched the team result.
Dayton opened the scoring in doubles play, earning wins on courts one and three. The Jaguars' pairing of
Konner Gunwall and
Brandon Pham fought closely at No. 1 doubles but ultimately fell, 6-4, while
Eli Mercer and
Pumiphat Sukkho dropped a tight 7-5 decision at the No. 3 spot. The No. 2 doubles match was tied at 6-6 when play was halted.
In singles competition, Dayton clinched the match with straight-set victories on courts one, three, and four. Gunwall faced a tough test at the top of the lineup, falling 6-2, 6-2, while Mercer and
Cameron Kryscio each competed in competitive matches before dropping decisions at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
Three singles matches were left unfinished, including
Owen Nguyen at No. 2,
Jai Dutta at No. 5, and
Brandon Pham at No. 6, all of whom were still battling when the match concluded.
IU Indianapolis will look to regroup as the Jaguars host Marquette tomorrow afternoon. The Jags and Golden Eagles are set for a 2:00 PM first serve at the West Indy Racquet Club.
