INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indianapolis men's tennis team turned in a dominant performance Friday afternoon, sweeping Marquette, 7-0, at the West Indy Racquet Club.
The Jaguars controlled the match from start to finish, earning victories in all six singles flights while also taking two completed doubles matches to secure the shutout. The win marked a strong showing on home courts as IU Indy did not drop a single match.
In doubles action, IU Indy picked up wins at Nos. 2 and 3. The duo of
Owen Nguyen and
Cameron Kryscio edged Hugh Perrill and Luke Coppage, 7-6, at No. 2, while
Eli Mercer and
Pumiphat Sukkho secured a 6-3 victory at No. 3. The No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished with the teams tied at 6-6.
In singles play,
Konner Gunwall set the tone at the top of the lineup with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Blake Roegner at No. 1. Nguyen followed with a decisive 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2, while Mercer battled through a tough three-set match at No. 3, outlasting Kristian Blagoev, 7-5, 4-6, 10-4, in the super tiebreak.
The Jaguars continued their momentum in the lower half of the lineup as Kryscio cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Brandon Pham rallied after dropping the first set to earn a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-6 victory at No. 5, and
Jai Dutta closed singles play with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6.
The Jaguars will next host Ball State at the West Indy Racquet Club on Friday, February 13.
