MITCHELL TALLIES CAREER-HIGH 25 AS JAGS FALL TO OAKLAND

Freshman Maguire Mitchell notches his third career 20-point game

INDIANAPOLIS - IU Indianapolis freshman Maguire Mitchell tallied a career-high 25 points but it wasn't enough as the Jaguars fell at home to Oakland on Wednesday night (Feb. 25), 86-74. The visiting Golden Grizzlies slugged their way to a 55 percent shooting night and outscored the Jaguars 60-30 in the paint in the win.

Brody Robinson led five Golden Grizzlies (16-14, 12-7 HL) in double-digits with 19 points and 13 assists and Tuburu Naivalurua added 16 points.

Oakland scored the game's opening six points and built a double-digit lead in the initial three-plus minutes. The lead grew to 28-11 midway through the first half before Kameron Tinsley made back-to-back threes to get hte advantage back to 11.

"They came out with more energy than we did and kind of punched us in the mouth at the beginning of the game. We got off to a bad start," junior Kyler D'Augustino said. "I feel like once we matched energy, we started playing with them a little bit. Then they just started stringing together more stuff than we did late in the game. They kind of flew away with it."

The Jaguars slowed down the Oakland attack as the half wore on, closing within 43-33 at intermission.

An 8-0 run midway through the second half saw the Jaguars creep within eight at 65-57, sparked by a Mitchell dunk and back-to-back Micah Davis baskets in transition. However, OU stopped the run with an Isaac Garrett layup and maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the evening.

Robinson continually knived his way through the IU Indy (7-23, 3-16 HL) defense, setting up teammates in close as Oakland attempted just 11 threes. The Golden Grizzlies were largely unfazed by the IU Indy pressure, turning it over just nine times while forcing 14 IU Indy miscues.

Oakland finished with a 17-10 margin in points off turnovers.

D'Augustino finished with 14 points and Davis contributed 12 off the bench. Finley Woodward, who was honored with a commemorative ball for his 1,000th collegiate point prior to the game, closed with seven points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

The Jags shot 48 percent from the field and 12-of-28 (42.9 percent) from three, but made just 4-of-10 free throws. Oakland outscored the Jaguars 14-4 at the charity stripe.

The two teams played to a regular season split with each team collecting a road win in the home-and-home series.

IU Indy will close the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 28) when it hosts Purdue Fort Wayne at 2:00 p.m. inside the Jungle. The Jaguars will honors seniors Ajay Holubar and Woodward prior to Saturday's game.
